FLOWER FLY
I spent most of the day in an area called the Maxton Plains on the north side of the island. It’s a very rare biome, filled with equally as rare plant and animal species. I was searching for a flower called Prairie Smoke which is very difficult to find, but along the way I found this St. John’s Wort flower. It’s a very small and delicate yellow flower, so I decided to shoot it with my Macro lens. This area is intense with bugs, and VERY persistent biting flies!
Eventually, I tracked this little bee that was buzzing my head, and when he landed, I snapped the photo! Turns out it wasn’t a bee, it’s a Flower Fly. They are completely harmless and just dressed up to look like a bee, to help scare potential attackers away. In fact, they are a very good custodian of your flower gardens. They help pollinate and do a little maintenance on the side. They are TINY! Three of them could easily fit together on the fingernail of my little finger.
I was very happy when I got home and saw that I successfully got the little guy in focus!
